Aims and scope

Geographica Timisiensis Review is a scientific international publication. The Journal is issued under the aegis and with financial support of the Department of Geography from the West University of Timişoara and the Centre for Regional Development, Cross-border Studies and Territorial Planning (CDR-START). It is published biannually since 1992, entirely in English, with materials published with an abstract and the full version free of charge, the printed format being supported by the online version.

Geographica Timisiensis is a regional review for Central and South-Eastern Europe, opened for international collaboration.

The journal aims to publish relevant contributions in the fields of human geography, natural and human resources, regional development, border studies and spatial planning, but also deals with scientific papers in related areas of interest concerning the spatial analysis of socio-economic, cultural and political phenomena.

An important objective is to promote academic and applied research based on a complex local and global interdisciplinary approach. The publication targets a heterogeneous community made of students, teaching staff and practitioners concerned in human geography, regional development, territorial planning and other related fields concerned with the analysis of relations between the social and natural environment these contributing considerably to the understanding, promotion and development of places, regions and the territory as a whole.

The review alternates thematic issues with varia issues in order to stimulate the scientific dialogue, from a human geographic perspective.

The journal meets the international requirements concerning the publication norms and ethics.

The published articles can be viewed free of charge in pdf format on the online version of the review.

GEOGRAPHICA TIMISIENSIS journal is Open Access according to the BOAI definition. This means that the journal’s articles have “free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.”

1. Margins

2. Paper
Paper size: A4

3. The title
Before title: 2 rows, font size 14
The title must be centered and written in capital letters, font Times New Roman, 14 points, bold;
After the title it must be one empty row, 14 points.

4. The name of the author(s) and the address of the author(s)
The first name of the author(s) written with normal letters, and the name of the author(s) written with capital letters, font size 12, italic, center;
The address of the author(s) will be introduced after the name of author(s); font size 11, center;
The address of the authors will contain: the name of the institutions (University of…, Faculty of…, Department of…, Center of…, Institute of…), the address of the institutions and a personal e-mail.
After the name of the author(s) and the address of the author(s) it must be two empty row, 11 points.

5. The abstract and the summary
Abstract (bold), font size 9, the text without bold
The abstract should be written in English;
The abstract contains between 50 and 100 words (if is possible one paragraph);
The abstract must contains a brief description of the aim of the article, methods of work and results. It should contain on comments and recommendations;
After the abstract it must be one empty row, font size 9.

6. The keywords
Font size 9, italic
The keywords should be written in English;
The list of keywords must contain between 5 and 10 words (do not use words already used in the title);
It must begin with the word “Keywords” (bold), followed by the sign “:”.

After the “keywords” there must appear two empty row, font size 9.

7. The text of the article
The text of article must be written using the Times New Roman, font size 10, justify;
The TAB is at 1 cm from the left edge.

8. The titles, subtitles and sub-subtitles
The titles inside the article must be written with capital letters, Times New Roman, font size 11 and they must be numbered with Arabian numbers; before the title it must be an empty row, 10 points (after the title it doesn’t have to be an empty row);
The subtitles inside must be written in Times New Roman, font size 11, bold, tab and they must be numbered with two numbers (for example 1.3.); before the subtitle must be an empty row, font size 11 (after the subtitle it doesn’t have to be an empty row);
If there are necessary sub-subtitles they must be written in Times New Roman, 10 points, italic;
The sub-subtitles must be numbered with 3 numbers (for example 1.3.2.); before the sub-subtitle must be an empty row, 11 points (after the sub-subtitle it doesn’t have to be an empty row).
After text: two empty rows, font size 10

9. The figures (maps, images)
The figures must appear on the page where are the references about them;
The figures must be sent also in an electronic format, a JPG;
The figures must be numbered with Arabian numbers;
The figure’s explanations must be written with Times New Roman, font size 11, italic, center (for example “Fig. 1. The map of the…”), which have to appear under the figure;
The source of the figures must be written with Times New Roman, 8 points, under the explanations;
All the figures must be #009 and white and there can be used pictures with a very good contrast (if possible no more 4 shades);
The figures resolution: 300 dpi;
If figure contains text this must be Times New Roman, font size 10;
The charts should be sent also in the Microsoft Office Excel 2003 version.

10. The tables
The tables are included in the text;
The datum from the table must be written in Times New Roman 9 points;
The tables are numbered with Arabian numbers (for example “Table 3”) which have to appear before the table;
The source of the tables must be written with Times New Roman, 8 points, under the explanations;
Before and after the figure and table one empty row.

11. The footnotes and the endnotes
The footnotes are numbered with Arabian numbers, starting from 1;
The text of the footnote must be written in Times New Roman, font size 8, italic;
We do not allow the endnotes in the Annals of the Geographica Timisiensis.

12. The abbreviations
The abbreviations should be explained when they first appear in the text.

13. The mathematics relations
The mathematics relations must appear centred on the page, Times New Roman, 9 points;
They must be numbered with Arabian numbers (for example “3”);
Before and after the formula there must be an empty row, 10 points.

14. The citations and the references
Literature citations and figure references should not appear in the abstract;
The format of the citations should follow the common rules (e.g.: (Ionescu, M., 2007, p. 19));
If there are more than tow authors, you can also use et al (e.g.: Ionescu et al., 2007);
If you are listing several works published by the same author in the same year, they should be differentiated by adding a lower case letter after the year for each item (e.g.: Ionescu, M., 2010a, Ionescu, M., 2010b);
If listed in same footnote, individual works os success should be separate by a comma (e.g.: Ionescu, M., 2007, Popescu I., 2008).
If citing an except form a non-serial publication, you should also add the number of page from which the citation is taken after the year;
If referring to newspaper sources in the text, you should cite the name of the newspaper, date of publications and page (e.g.: Timis Expres, 11.3.2009, 13).

15. The acknowledgment
This should be placed before bibliography, and must be written in third person (e.g.: The author(s) wished to thank … for his helpful comments an earlier drafts of this paper);
If the article presents results from research projects, the acknowledgment will be: This contribution presents some results from research projects …. The authors acknowledge to anonymous reviewer for their thoughtful suggestions and comments;
The acknowledgment may be submitted as a separate document that will not be send for review, but will be included in the publication schedule for accepted papers.

16. The bibliography
The bibliography must appear at the end of the article;
The word “Bibliography” must be centered and written in capital letters, Times New Roman, Font size 12, bold, center;
After the title: one empty row, font size 12
The sequence of papers in alphabetical order of authors: font size 9.
The authors: Bold, normal letters; names separated by commas.
Year in brackets
Title of papers: italic
Publishing and the locality
Example:
Ionescu, M., (2007), The Geography of Romania, “Mirton” Publisher, Timisoara

On the copy that is to be sent to the Committee of the redaction board, the numbering of the pages will be made with a pencil, outside the text zone. In the doc folder the pages will not be numbered.

Reviewing methods

For publication, each article is reviewed by the editorial team, checked whether the editing requirements were followed and if it is related to the topic of the review.
In terms of the scientific content, each article (without the name of the author(s)) is sent to two reviewers for evaluation (Step A). The reviewers are selected from the national and international members of the editorial and scientific board, as well as from other scholarly or professional experts in the field.

The comments of reviewers will be sent to the author by the editorial board to make the recommended changes, if necessary (Step B).

Then, the checked article is sent back to the reviewers (Step C).

If at least one of the reviewers considers that the article does not fulfill the scientific terms of publication, the Editorial Board can refuse its publication.
For the evaluation of an article (Step A), reviewers will take into account: importance of debated issues, adequacy of literature review, rigor of methodology used, rigor of analysis (appropriate interpretation), clarity of writing, explanations, concepts, suitability of illustrations and tables (too many, too few, clarity), adequacy of abstract (accurate summary of entire paper) and keywords, adequacy of introduction (purpose and rationale), adequacy of conclusions, accuracy of the title and contribution to the study of Geography.

Editors reserve the right to make minor editorial changes to the submitted articles, including changes to grammar, punctuation and spelling, as well as article format, but no major alterations will be carried out without authorial approval. In this case, the proof of the manuscript adjusted by editors will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding author before the article is published.

The final version of the manuscripts accepted for publication is included on the list of articles which are to be published. Authors are notified by e-mail about the status of the submitted articles.

All authors have free online access to their article in PDF format.
