CONFERENCE MISSION STATEMENT
Tourism has become widely recognised as important to regenerating the urban economy throughout post-communist Central and Eastern Europe and, consequently, the subject of considerable policy endeavor among both national and regional governments. The conference aims to understand how cities and regions in Central and Eastern Europe have sought to use policy to enhance their attractiveness as destinations for tourism. Specifically, the conference aims to explore both critically and through policy, how cities in post-communist Central and Eastern Europe have used place-making, marketing and other strategies to develop their tourism base.
Since Timisoara has been recently nominated as European Capital of Culture (ECoC) in 2021, the conference will bring together researchers, policy-makers, practitioners as well as government representatives to debate these themes:- Urban tourism as an element of urban regeneration
- Urban justice, inclusive urban societies and tourism
- Urban tourism marketing
- Urban neoliberalism and tourism
- Urban infrastructure and tourism development
- Urban social movements / Urban resistance and tourism
